Mission #004
ReSeed-4: Pioneer
Location
Peloponnese Region, Greece
About This Mission
Mission 4 marked ReSeed's first operation in a recently burned site. The area had been affected by a wildfire shortly before the mission, leaving large sections of vegetation completely destroyed. This mission aimed to support rapid ecological recovery by deploying seed bombs in areas with minimal natural regeneration, testing the drones' effectiveness in fresh post-fire conditions and evaluating seed establishment in harsher, unstable terrain.
Challenges & Learnings
Challenges
Operating in a recently burned area introduced new challenges, including unstable ground conditions, residual smoke, and higher winds near exposed slopes, which affected flight stability and seed dispersion. The absence of vegetation also made it harder to estimate optimal seed placement.
Learnings
From this mission, the team learned the importance of adjusting flight altitude and drop timing in freshly burned landscapes. The experience highlighted the need for refined mapping of burn severity and targeted seeding strategies, improving the effectiveness of subsequent missions in similar high-risk areas.
