Mission #005

ReSeed-5: Project Helios

Location

Thessaly Region, Central Greece

600 Trees Planted
900 Flowers Planted

About This Mission

ReSeed-5 was conducted in an area affected by a wildfire many years ago, where vegetation had partially recovered but biodiversity remained limited. This mission focused not only on reforestation but also on enhancing habitat for pollinators, such as bees, by deploying seed bombs containing flowering plants alongside native trees. By introducing a mix of pollinator-friendly flora and tree species, the mission aimed to restore ecological balance and support long-term regeneration of the ecosystem.

Challenges & Learnings

Challenges

One challenge during this mission was ensuring even distribution of both small flowering seeds and larger tree seeds, as their dispersion characteristics differed. Additionally, wind and minor drone calibration issues affected the spread of lighter seeds.

Learnings

The team learned to adjust drone altitude and release timing for mixed seed payloads, optimizing coverage and promoting both tree growth and pollinator habitats. These insights informed strategies for integrating biodiversity considerations into future reforestation missions.
